AFFINITY GROUPS EMBODY A PEOPLE-FIRST CULTURE AT FORS MARSH GROUP—NAMED A TOP WORKPLACE 2022 BY THE WASHINGTON POST
The workforce has shifted to the (healthy) realization that business isn’t a family. Okay, fair. But that doesn’t mean work has to be a place where you spend 8 hours strictly punching numbers. In truth, we probably spend more time with our coworkers than most family members. There is still room for connection and alignment with the people we’re spending 40 or more hours a week with. The goal of a workplace should be to create an organization that encourages employees to bring their authentic selves to work and to create safe spaces with like-minded colleagues who can speak their minds without fear of reprisal. A workplace where employees have a voice.
At Fors Marsh Group (FMG), we’re proud to announce that we’ve been recognized for the fourth time in as many years as a Top Workplace by The Washington Post. FMG earned this award based solely on feedback from an employee survey administered through Energage, which measured several aspects of workplace culture, including alignment, execution, and connection. As stated by The Washington Post, “Top Workplaces celebrates the employers that are getting it right.”
One of the top responses echoed across our divisions is how much our FMG employees value the time and dedication provided by our affinity groups. FMG’s employee-led affinity groups, also known as employee resource groups (ERGs), are supportive communities that share an identity and create a platform to create meaningful connections to share lived experiences.
We offer seven affinity groups for employees to join—Black@FMG, LGBTQIA+@FMG, API@FMG, Parents@FMG, Latin@FMG, Mental Health and Neurodiversity, and Military@FMG—and employees are welcome to suggest new groups. Meetings are recurring, with continuing conversations happening online between meetups.
Our People First core value shines brightly within our affinity groups. Fostering community, encouraging people to tell their stories, and feeling seen are the kinds of intangible benefits that have made FMG a Washington Post Top Workplace for 4 years in a row. As a mainly remote workforce, affinity groups help FMGers get to know each other as more than a face on the screen. The connections are real.
Over the next several months, we’ll be spotlighting each affinity group to learn about the mission of each group and the people who make them so unique. Visit FMG Careers and become a part of our People-First culture.
